Trutnov is a town in Královéhradecký kraj in the north-east of the Czech Republic. The town of just under 30,000 inhabitants is known as the "gateway to the Krkonoše Mountains". The town was founded in the first half of the 13th century and has been a town since 1340. The history of Trutnov is linked to numerous changes of ownership, with Bohemian, Silesian, Bavarian, Roman-German and Hungarian dynasties ruling over the town over the centuries. It was called Trautenau for a long time before the Czech name Trutnov prevailed after 1945.
A number of street and product names in Trutnov refer to the legendary figure of Rübezahl, today the town's tourist flagship, where soccer, basketball, ice hockey and tennis are played alongside curling.
Curling in Trutnov
The 1st KCK Trutnov was founded in 1997 as the first curling club in Eastern Bohemia. Since its foundation, it has trained at the Trutnov ice stadium, where it also organizes its own events and tournaments. Players from the club have qualified for Czech national teams several times in various age groups and categories.
The club's most important event is the "Trutnov Grand Prix", which was held for the first time in 1998 and in which players from all over the Czech Republic and abroad take part. Part of the tournament's tradition is that it has a specific theme every year - the participating teams compete in themed costumes for the tournament.
Since 2007, the club has also organized a long-term competition, the Krkonoše Curling Cup, which is open to all interested parties regardless of membership in an association. The club also has a wealth of experience with wheelchair curling and the training of these players. It has organized several tournaments in this sport.
The club's long-term wish is to build its own curling hall in Trutnov. Training sessions take place every Monday from October to March from 17:30-19:00 and are open to everyone.
Anyone interested in trying out curling for free can contact the club via FB or e-mail.
