Curling in Swidnica

Świdnica is a district town with around 56,000 inhabitants in the Polish province of Lower Silesia, around 60 kilometres south-west of Wrocław. Świdnica was first mentioned as a town in a document in 1243. It has been part of the Holy Roman Empire since 1335 and can look back on a Bohemian, Habsburg and Prussian history. It has belonged to Poland since 1945. Traces of its history can be found in the monastery and church buildings of the Dominicans, Franciscans and Jesuits as well as in the impressive Church of Peace. The town has been the seat of a bishop since 2004.

Świdnica has a wide range of sports, including football, basketball, ice hockey and swimming clubs. Curling is played at the DKC DZIK Świdnica.

Curling in Świdnica

On 25 November 2019, the first open curling training session took place at the OSiR ice rink in Świdnica. A few months later, on 4 March 2020, curling enthusiasts from Świdnica and the surrounding area met to sign the founding documents of the Lower Silesian Curling Club ‘Dzik’ Świdnica. Since then, curling has established itself in Świdnica and every year brings further success in the curling world.

The training centre is the OSiR Świdnica ice rink at 35B Śląska Street in Świdnica. In cooperation with OSiR Świdnica, 3 to 6 curling lanes have been designated on the ice rink. In the 2024/25 season, we hope to be able to use our own curling rink, which will be built as part of the modernisation of the ice rink.

The DKC ‘Dzik’ Swidnica organises regular curling training sessions for club members and anyone interested. The training sessions are open to anyone who wants to try their hand at this little-known sport.

The club has been organising the Świdnica Curling Tournament since 2022, with a total of 36 teams taking part in 2024.

Anyone interested in trying out curling for free can contact the club via FB or e-mail.
